Works For Me
Here's a link to an article from a gun owner, NRA member, conservative judge, that talks about why we should ban assault weapons. "It speaks horribly of the public discourse in this country that talking about gun reform in the wake of a mass shooting is regarded as inappropriate or as politicizing the tragedy. But such a conversation is political only to those who are ideologically predisposed to see regulation of any kind as the creep of tyranny. And it is inappropriate only to those delusional enough to believe it would disrespect the victims of gun violence to do anything other than sit around and mourn their passing. Mourning is important, but so is decisive action." Sandy Hook should not have happened, and so we should act so that it does not happen again.

Not Going to Get Over This
I feel alot today like I felt after the Northridge Earthquake. I lived in the Oakwood Apartments in Burbank at the time, and that was a huge earthquake that woke me up from sleep. One minute the world was just the world and the planet was just the planet and the room I was sleeping in was just a room. After the earthquake, the world was a planet in outer space that for some odd reason decides to let me live and just at any moment it could just as easily decide not to, I could be squished by buildings falling on me, gravity could just decide to turn off, the Earth can move out of orbit, be entirely different on any given day. I am a passenger on a ship without a pilot completely at its mercy.
It's that kind of powerlessness. Me, a tiny little person, on a planet I cannot control. Except that now I am reminded of that more painfully so because my kids are even smaller little passengers and they are counting on me to keep them safe.

The Doctors Are In
Em and Kat worked at the Doctor's office this morning. There was a baby in trouble, it had cancer, and they needed to research ways to save the child. Each of the computer "monitors" highlight possible solutions. One of the doctors is an absolute bear to work with.

I Found A Note
I found this note in my resume folder:
Dear Mr. {So and So},
I know that you think I am an artist, and this is how it started. When I was a baby, I always drew potato heads with hair on their heads, arms, legs, and giant noses. My mom drew with me everyday. One time, when we moved, my aunt was making a sculpture of a bunny with a jacket. This embarrassed me because I only drew potato heads! So, I began drawing bunnies everyday -- bunnies with coats. Then, one time, when I turned 5, I sort of got it right even though the head was huge and the jacket was too furry. So, I began drawing horses, lots of horses. When I was 7, I finally started drawing them right -- the horses and bunnies. Then I started drawing dragons, weasels, demons, and plants. My favorite now is drawing plants (note: no longer true -- she's back to dragons). I started showing my art at show and tell. I am not really famous or anything yet.

Weekend Hike
We went hiking this last weekend with one of Em's friends from school.
And no, we did not find our other camera. We prefer to see loss as an
opportunity for upgrade.
