Homemade Sauerkraut

I really want to incorporate more veggies into our family diet. But I am not a big vegetable person. I don't really have a lot of practice with vegetables or memories of great veggie dishes. But I do like pickles. And sauerkraut. In Randy's family, they used to make a big crock of homemade sauerkraut, and he's been wanting to try it. Here's his first solo attempt. If it turns out OK, we might have large batches around here in our future.

I Did It!

I knit something. It became a neck gaiter. It's sad looking. Lots of holes. But it is a craft and I started it and I finished it, and that for me is a very big deal.

Thinking About Going Back to School

Grammar school and high school I was a B student, but I really didn't put any effort into it. College, I was a B student, but I put a lot of effort in. And somewhere along the line while I was working, I took an undergraduate senior level UCLA course in Relational Database Management, and I aced it with a very minimal amount of work. Teamed up with the smart kids and everything. I just really loved the subject matter. I want that feeling again, but the whats, hows and the whens are a little on the iffy side.

Step One of Room Makeover - Bunkbeds

We've got bunkbeds! Yay. Though we haven't set them both up yet, Kat Kat being liable to climb and jump at the first opportunity. At least now, Emy has a real bed like a real person, instead of a cot. It make me feel like we are moving in finally after three years here. The other day I actually unpacked what I hope are the final three moving boxes; they were filled with hardly anything and they were labeled "medicine cabinet".

This is where the bunkbeds will go eventually. Just need a few more things after that....

I Heart Netflix

As a kid, I watched entirely too much TV. And when I wasn't watching TV, I was in a bus on my way to the movies.

And now every night, after the kids are in bed, I try my best to just sit at my computer and watch at least 2 hours of TV. And I discovered something. Watching television dramas, like Lost, and Grey's Anatomy are SO much FREAKING better when you can queue up an entire season and marathon from episode to episode in consecutive order without interruption.

I have perfect, healthy children, my funny husband, I have my house, I can eat bread again, my kids are letting me sleep 4 or more hours straight, and these people somewhere made Netflix just for me. I had this person say that I look like I am very content nowadays, and it's true, I just can't seem to think of not any one thing I can ask for more in life; it's like I had a fairy godmother grant me all my wishes. I get worried that I am too happy. My boss Tal used to say I should spit on my hand to ward off bad spirits or jinxes just for thinking something like that.

I owe that women a pie. Probably more like 3 or 4 pies.
