A Facebook Craze

25 Random Things About Me:

1) I learned vicariously through my Mother that being competitive is everything. And I have spent nearly most of my life trying to erase this programming; sometimes feeling like I have, and sometimes realizing that I haven't even begun.
2) I hope after we die, we get to review our own lives, and then we get to review the lives of everyone we knew.
3) Parenthood has taught me the difference between adulthood and childhood, and I wonder what it's like to go through an entire lifetime without ever becoming a parent.
4) After high school, my father tried to convince me and my 4 foot 11 inch frame to join the Military. I actually gave it some thought because I thought I needed some time to figure out what to study in college. The Gulf War began soon after I rejected the idea.
5) I find it distasteful that men get hair plugs, but since I am nursing and losing my hair in clumps, I still understand very much why they do it.
6) I like to listen to music, but since I don't know how to make music, I often don't know and don't really care a thing about the person(s) who made it.
7) I only know one language, and many Latin/Hispanic people are insulted by me when they say something to me in Spanish and I don't know how to respond, so I have gotten more and more awkward about it.
8) I'm not too sure that I believe in that there was a Jesus, but if there was, and if He meant all the things they say He said, then I am pretty sure He'd be pissed right now with His most fervent believers.
9) I DON'T hate TV dramas, but I've hardly watched any because I am afraid of getting hooked and then have them cancel on me. But, I did, on purpose, watch all four seasons of Lost just recently, because I learned that they have an ending and they plan on showing it one day. Not too sure I like the show, but I do like feeling like I have to watch the next one. Helps me keep track of what day it is.
10) I hate competitive sports; I have never watched a whole game of anything; I find them terribly boring because I haven't the foggiest idea of the rules, or how to keep track of which team is which, or to care anyway.
11) I grew up in the Bronx, where people don't talk much, or use very big words, so I repeat myself often using different words to try to convey the same meaning so that I will be more easily understood. The weird thing is, that now that I have a larger vocabulary, I feel less understood.
12) I love movies. As long as there have been humans, they've been teaching each other through story telling. Therefore, I think movies are an awesome teaching device.
13) I like crossing the country by train, even though when I arrive at my destination I often tell myself I never want to get back on another train.
14) I am glad I currently live in a place where I haven't heard gunfire at night. I have lived in the Bronx and Los Angeles, where I cannot say the same is true.
15) I wasn't ready to marry until I had a child.
16) I never thought I would have as much faith in a politician as I have in Barack Obama.
17) I have no idea what's next for me in my life and I'm OK with that.
18) I love Indian food! And Thai food! And Korean food! But I mostly love sushi.
19) I live inside my head for the most part.
20) I don't ever want to have a pet. The two pets I've had died, and when pets die you have no one to blame but yourself even if they die of old age.
21) Despite having a degree in it, I use the auto feature on my camera for taking photos.
22) I love watching Andy Samberg rap.
23) I love organizing data into categories. I mentally create databases.
24) I love my children, I love having time to spend with them, but I want them very much to leave me alone.
25) I wonder what I ever did before I used the Internet in general.

Obama Obama Obama

Here it is. The hugest historical thing I have ever witnessed in my lifetime so far. OK, wait, 9/11 was three days of sad huge historical news . So, OK, hugest good historical news ever witnessed in my lifetime...watching it live on my computer, eating Kettle chips, and my little baby on my lap. And I feel very much like it's Thanksgiving Day, and I am getting ready to go to the Parade.

History happens so fast. I just made a Facebook status, I'm emailing, checking out the news, doing so many things while I am listening and (participating) in the inaug, and it's so cool that I can do all these things without even taking a minute to think that I couldn't even concieve of these things 5 years ago. Minute taken and recorded.

It's That Time Again

It's frigid cold outside, so I have to busy myself with planning Emy's summer birthday party. I came up with a winner. This year, we'll be doing Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs! Shhh...Emy doesn't know yet. I can't wait until she gets home from school, so I can tell her.

If anybody sees anything "Ice Age" related please let me know.

Thanks.

Passive Assertiveness

As of the new year, we have a new schoolbus driver. The first two times he was dropping Em off home, he almost missed her stop, but a "really nice big boy who never even tried to hit me or nukking bad like that" from the bus, yelled at him to make sure he stopped, winning Em's goodwill forever.

And that poor bus driver made the mistake of...making a mistake, not something you want to do in front of my daughter. Today when she got off the bus, he had to smile at me - "she KEEPS reminding me of where she lives from the second she gets into the bus! She says, 'And remember I live at the top of the hill' everyday!"

hehehe...

Sibling Sistery

Much to my surprise and astonishment, Emy's fascination and appreciation for her sister grows by the day. She delights in Kat's milestones as much as we do. When other people pay more attention to the baby, then to her, she chimes in, "yea, I know, and she also does this...watch..." She begs me to take Kat into her school, so she can show her off to her friends. What's more, when I have to tell her to wait, because I am doing something for Kat, she doesn't like it, but then she doesn't really complain or take it out on the baby, either. I guess, when you plan for the worst, sometimes, it can throw you how wrong you were.

Blank Page Syndrome Might Not Be Genetic

I know parents are SUPPOSED to be wowed by their kids, so I usually try to hold back how baffled I am at Emy's artistic abilities, but... It's not that she can draw or make art so much that impresses me (though it does). It's how quickly and confidently she can create something from nothing. She'll open a new batch of clay and tell me, for instance, "I'm going to make a bird," and just like that from out of nowhere, a bird there is. She has no fear, no hesitation, just bam! And I guess the wow comes from me knowing that I either cannot do that, or I have developed the inability to do it.

Virtual House Tour

Emy, seeing a loophole, decided that if she had her own house, she wouldn't have to follow "our" house rules. So she transformed a computer box. If a TV fit in there, she'd be all set.
