Watermelon Cushion for Treehouse Couch

I just got this cushion from Pier 1 (because it was only $20 and it just kept staring at me); I think it will work as a low platforn couch-y kind of thing for now. The aim, for now, for the treehouse interior furniture/ fabric color scheme is probably going to be melon, peach, orange, and seafoam/chalkboard green, maybe some red. I think those colors are girl friendly enough to work. We are thinking of getting someone a sewing machine as a present since she likes to sew things by hand. I am hoping she can make her own curtains and pillows, but those things might be harder to make then I think. I guess I won't know until we figure it out together.

Ruby's Birthday Gift

Totoro and Ponyo figurines set --

Fujimoto
Baby Ponyo
Totoro
Ponyo's Mermaid mom.

For those of you that have no idea what a Totoro or a Ponyo is -- they are films by Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.

Ponyo is a little fish girl. Her mom is a mermaid.

Totoro is a...hmmm...I really don't know what a Totoro actually is...

What's most amazing to me is that she made these figurines from memory. She hasn't seen either of these films for several months. It's also secondly amazing to me that she somehow can keep all the sculpty pieces separate long enough and put them all together quick enough that they don't all clump together in swirly mess like my sculpty sculptures seem to do.

Pancake Breakfast @ Arnot Forest

They let you eat the pancakes with the syrup they have just made. The place smells like maple sugar.

Someone has sticky syrup fingers.

Kat helped stain today.

To stain (the interior) or not to stain, that is the question.

Final Year for the Writer's Contest

Emy has been working for months now on a story for the PBS Kids Go Writer's Contest. It's only for K-3rd graders, so this will be the last year she can enter. She won 3rd place last year, and 3rd place the year before that, so we're hoping she at least wins third place again this year. (Of course, I am secretly hoping that she wins 1st place and that her story goes on to win nationwide and that she wins a laptop computer. Sue me.) In any case, I really cannot wait until I get to show people what she has made. I think it's awesome. I guess I would think that.

Unbelievable Spring Weather

Weather has been awesome lately. Can't believe it's already time to put away the snow sleds. We didn't even get a chance to use them this winter.
